According to Section 642 of the Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622) of Hong Kong Laws, all limited companies registered in Hong Kong must comply with the following statutory requirements regarding the display of company name signs (water signs):
Legal requirements
1. Display the company name at the registered office
A company must display a sign bearing its registered name in a prominent position at its registered office. The sign must be in easily legible letters and clearly visible to persons contacting the company.
2. Display your company name at every business location
If a company carries out business activities at another location (such as a branch, office, shop, etc.) other than its registered office, it must also display a sign with its company name in a prominent place at that location.
Signage content requirements
- The company name must be exactly the same as the registered name on the Certificate of Incorporation;
- Signs should be displayed permanently and should not be temporarily removed or covered;
- The font should be clear and easy to read, not blurry or too small.
Legal consequences of non-compliance
If a company fails to comply with the above regulations, it may face the following legal liabilities:
- First conviction: a fine of HK$10,000;
- Continuous violations: Daily fine of HK$600 per day.
